HEY-OYE is a 501-C-3 not for profit organization with locations in DC and St Cloud, Florida, and collaborative outposts in Latin America and Spain (countries with related immigrant communities). HEY-OYE has been enganged in helping Latinos navigate financial (mortgages), legal (immigration), real estate (foreclosures), and a number of other issues so they can become more fully integrated in our society.
Our volunteer staff renders these "hand on" services at minimal costs to the "client" (community member) all of which allows for the experience to spread to other needed individuals and families. HEY-OYE operates with slim overhead or administrative costs, and leverages its accomplishments with a network of satisfied clients who are asked to also volunteer. From filling legal documents, negotiating foreclosures, and other financial issues (IRS disputes), credit card and mortgage dispute resolutions, health care options, and the such, HEY-OYE has made a difference to many in these troubling times. HEY-OYE currrent volunteer staff includes: attorneys, accountant, mortage and real estate professionals, as well as computer science, medical and health food (formerly NIH) expert, former senior government executive, together with numerous other part-time and occassional volunteers from the ranks of those HEY-OYE has served, as well as community oriented activists. HEY-OYE participates in collaborative agreements with other nonprofits and institutions to best leverage resources and deliver services to Latinos in the US and the Latin American region.
Jose Diaz-Asper, Chair. Private equity, international tax attorney (formely in practice in NYC, Madrid, Miami now residing in Washington DC) is the founder of HEY-OYE; committed to using his business and personal relationships to foster economic emporwerment of Latinos with the HEY-OYE collaborative network of services and programs.
Susan Lauffer, Vice-President (Volunteer). Directed Real Estate Services (right of way) and Intelligent Transportation Applications (electronics for traffic management) at the Federal Highway Administration. Managed congressional relations on energy policy (fuel economy standards, deep-water ports); federal highway program authorizations and appropriations; and transportation finance for the US Department of Transportation. Conducted government relations activities for two Fortune 500 corporations (agriculture, pharmacueticals). Analyzed performance of clients' portfolios at a major national bank. Conducted Intergovernmental Relations activities across all Federal Cabinet Departments.
Diego Vazquez, Vice-President. Principal behind NLM Group, a collective of creative professionals who combine technology and traditional media to target bilingual Hispanics in the USA. NL Media's bilingual publications served Hispanic communities in Washington DC and New York City areas. Prior to his work in Media, Mr. Vasquez was a software engineering consultant with experience on wireless embedded systems and demographic market analysis software. He was a co-host for MHz Latino ('01 - '03), a weekly TV show about Latin culture broadcasted on MHz Networks throughout the DC area. Mr. Vasquez holds degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (BS and MS) both from George Mason University. Currently finishing MBA degree from Georgetown University.
Dolores Yanes, Staff. Owner of D & M Beauty Salon, in the Columbia Heights Latino neighborhood (Washington DC), hard working Salvadorian mother that operates for HEY-OYE an outreach community service fom her establishment.
Jose Manuel Menjivar. Staff. Young Salvadorian learning programing and software applications to better serve Latino communities, a protegee of HEY-OYE and an example of the promise that young Latinos can offer their communities.
